New and Improved!

Updating the Consumer Credit Law

Listen up, folks, 'cause there's some new sheriff in town when it comes to consumer credit in Ukraine! Recently, a group of deputies from "Servant of the People" faction, including Olga Vasylevska-Smaliuk and Daniil Getmantsev, have proposed an amendment to the law "On Consumer Credit." Here's the tea:

If you've been blacklisted for playing the gambling games, you might not be eligible for credit from now on. Yep, that's right! Before you can sign a consumer credit agreement, lenders will need to check if your name appears in the gambling prohibition register. If it does, they can't lend you a dime.

But wait, there's more! The amendment also aims to force gambling providers to grant lenders access to the prohibition register. By January 1, 2024, they should be able to provide this info.

Now, hold up your horses! Critics argue that this move might infringe upon the rights of people on the register, and many might refuse to be listed. Most folks on the list, by the way, have voluntarily chosen to give up gambling.어떻게 버틸 수 있어?!

The commission has purposed some suggestions, like applying the restriction only to people included in the register by court decision or checking only applicants for large loans.

It's worth mentioning that the KRAIL, the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada on Regulatory Policy and Business, has been keeping a close eye on this whole situation. As of now, the document has garnered support from 243 MPs, with none voting against.

In case you're curious, here are some other things going on in the gambling world:

  1. The KRAIL has approved the merger of registers, which might affect market rules and tax burdens.
  2. The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has forbidden the use of credit funds for gambling.
