Financial Tools and Preferences

For savings, Russian youth predominantly prefer bank deposits (82.5%). Savings insurance is utilized by 5.2%, investments in their own business by 8.6%, real estate by 5%, securities by 4.8%.

Rusan Westerowski, Senior Vice President and Head of the "Wealth Management" division at Sberbank:

Our study reveals that half of young Russians are proactively stashing cash – 21% do so regularly, and a further 31% save when possible. This marks a significant shift: young people aren't just setting ambitious targets but also prioritizing financial security. Over the past year, the desired capital target for Russian youth has swelled from 2.3 to 3.4 million rubles - the younger generation is looking ahead with optimism. In Krasnodar, this goal is even higher - 3 million rubles. This year, we're launching a crucial system - the family savings program. This could motivate Russians with benefits like tax breaks, employer participation, and tapping maternity capital. I am convinced that this tool will resonate greatly among the 18-35 demographic - those already constructing their financial futures.

Methodology Note

The study took place in June 2025 in 37 Russian cities with a population exceeding 500,000. Over 11,000 participants took part in the survey. The sample mirrors the socio-demographic makeup of the population in these cities, ensuring the results' accuracy and relevance.
