Berlin's Tiergarten Tunnel Fully Reopens for All Vehicles

Good news for Berlin commuters! The Tiergarten Tunnel, a key traffic artery in the city, has been fully reopened to all vehicles, including heavy trucks and lorries over 3.5 tonnes, heading southbound towards Kreuzberg. The tunnel had been closed to these heavier vehicles since November 2024 due to ventilation system problems.

After completing repairs in late July 2025, the tunnel's jet fans have been reinstalled, ensuring that in emergencies such as fires, smoke can be adequately discharged, restoring operational safety. However, it's important to note that recent traffic conditions in the Tiergarten area may still be occasionally affected by events like the "Rave the Planet" techno parade, which resulted in road closures and detours, potentially causing temporary traffic congestion.

The repair work on several fans in Berlin had resulted in their dismantling due to excessive vibration and material damage. Smaller cars have been able to use the tunnel again since early December. As of early August 2025, no specific ongoing traffic disruptions related to the tunnel repairs have been reported, indicating that traffic in and around the Tiergarten Tunnel is currently operating under normal conditions.

Tagesspiegel will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on any changes to traffic conditions in the Tiergarten area. Until then, enjoy the smoother commutes, Berliners!
